As I stare out at the snow covered trees, brilliant in the early morning sun, I appreciate the beauty of this moment. I can see a red cardinal, resting in the trees, planning his flight to food and companionship.
Last evening as I turned out the lights and pulled the shades, the world outside glittered with moonlight reflecting of the snowy ground and bushes.
Yesterday morning, it was cold with a fresh blanket of snow over the trees, the driveway, the hills beyond the trees... and the limbs on the trees drooped to near breaking, but withstood the weight. This cold and snow seemed to signal the end of fall around here. Prior to then, it had been unseasonably mild.
This summer, I had cataract surgery, and my world went from being dull, with an orange haze over everything to being brilliant and sharp. I could see the stars at night as individual stars, in relationship to each other. I can see the leaves on trees as separate from each other, each endowed with its own beauty, yet forming additional beauty in the trees.
I have come to appreciate sight, and the doctors who help to assure that we can see. And I show my appreciation by being more observant of the amazing land and sky around me.
