Resignation

Resignation sums up the year 2011 for me. I traded my minivan for a Honda sedan. I bought a lower profile bed. I installed a shower with no barriers, and a washbowl that accommodates a wheelchair. I built a ramp from the top step of our deck to the grassy area below. Why? Because I realized, after years of optimism, that my love  will need these accommodations for as long as she lives. It helps her: it helps me. But I am resigned to the fact that all of this is necessary  for us. Resignation is the word of 2011. Optimism will be the word for 2012.
