Resignation is not really a negative. Rather, it denotes for me the coming face to face with reality. When I was able to do that I was enabled to do something creative to deal with my situation. 2011 began when I realized that a minivan is impossible to board for a handicapped person. (We are not talking here of someone who is other abled.) So in December of 2010, I decided the van had to go, and with the coaching of my son and daughter, I traded down to a Honda Accord. This amazing car can carry everything needed to manage handicapped life while travelling. We spent a great week in Newport, RI in June. The seats are closer together, so there can be conversation, and there is less engine noise.
As mentioned in the first blog, a number of creative solutions were taken through out the year to address a variety of issues. I had never created a shower using stone tiles and cement board before. And it works. The water stays in the shower.
These issues of accessibility were in my mind when 2011 began, and I was able to face the questions and arrive at creative solutions. Hence my optimism for 2012.
